No prior experience necessary.
Art of Belly Dance (Fundamentals): An introduction to the basic elements of all belly dance. Learn about its history and evolution through time and gain insight into the art as you dance. You will explore your body's potential for flexibility and muscle control and learn to execute isolated movements with fluidity and rhythm. Students will work toward building combinations of movement inspired by music from the Middle East. No prior experience necessary.
Level One: Also a beginning level class, but more focused than Art of Belly Dance. You will reinforce movements and steps learned in Fundamentals and Belly Dance Fitness, while building your repertoire of moves and isolations. You will explore various stylizations of belly dance movement. Students will discover their body's natural capacity for rhythm and musicality through combinations of movement and choreography. Students are encouraged to take Belly Dance Fitness (Aerobics) or Art of Belly Dance (Fundamentals) prior.
Level Two: A continuing level class in which Tribal/Tribal Fusion style belly dance is introduced. While continuing to reinforce previous material and build movement vocabulary, you will broaden your repertoire of belly dance moves. Tribal stylizations and technique are emphasized in this class. The student will continue to develop their visceral sense of rhythm and musicality through study of floor patterns, slightly more complex combinations of movement, and choreography. Level 1 or consent of instructor required.
Level Three: An intermediate level Tribal/Tribal Fusion style class. Class begins with a stretching and conditioning warmup to help the student continue to develop strength and flexibilty. You will reinforce your tribal stylization and technique while progressing to slighly more complex layering. You will discover strategies for overcoming challenging movements such as turns, spins, level changes and back bends. The student will continue to probe the concepts of rhythm and musicality in movement through choreography, while learning the tribal system for group improvisation. Level 2 or consent of instructor required.
Level Four: An advanced level class in the tribal/tribal fusion style. Class begins with a stretching and conditioning warmup to help the student continue to develop strength and flexibility.
